Tiger Leaping Gorge

Day 2, we all left early to head to 虎跳峡 "hu tiao xia" or in English The Tiger Leaping Gorge. This gorge, located 62 miles northwest of Lijiang's old city, is considered to be the largest gorge in the world at about 700 feet deep and 9 miles long. Below is the group in the Old Town preparing to head out along with a few views of Lijiang's old city.

Below we are in a bus on our way to the gorge. I asked the bus driver right after this shot about how long will it take to get there. After getting over the shock that he understood me, I realized that we were in for somewhat of a long three hour ride. I however, kept my self entertained as you shall soon find out; the next 14 photo's are all taken on the way there. The trip began with a two hour bus ride where we were dropped off at a restaurant. It is simply touristy China to catch the unprepared tourist off guard by dropping him off at a restaurant in the middle of no where right at lunch time. He thus has no choice to eat there and pay the hiked up prices... As one can see China's tourist industry is made up of an intricate pad of relationships. So much that whether you know it or not you are participating in a package deal. From the restaurant the bus would take off back to Lijiang and leave us with no option but to either walk five hours to get there or to pay again and get on the 面包车 "mian bao che" (literally means bread car but refers to the English "van").

bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Here we finally have arrived at the center of the gorge.

This was by far the most beautiful 厕所 “ce suo" or bathroom in the whole world! Who knew that it would be in China! :)

After our short bathroom break, we began to descend in to the Gorge.

Below is Stacy, who unfortunately as I am writing this update is packing her bags to go back to the States. Please keep her in your thoughts! Recently her Father has been in and out of the ICU with heart related problems! Her sudden return was not expected and is extremely ruff for her and a lot of her friends still here. We'll miss you Stacy!

Heres the happy couple again still in their fairy tale...

I'm not quite sure who this is just thought the view looked nice...

This was very uncharacteristic of Stacy but you can really see her Italian side showing in this pic.

Tom found this wooden gun in one of the garbage baskets on the path down. ..

Here we finally made it to the bottom of the gorge not all looking forward to going back up...

Well anyways there isn't much else I can say about the tiger leaping gorge, not that you read anything I write anyways you just look at the pictures. Anyways, Here I am reading the South East Asia Edition of Lonely Planet to find out about our next and last stop, namely Jade dragon snow mountain!
